Originally opening for business in 1954 under the name Amherst Park Barber Shop, it was operated in those first years by a Mr. Schmidt (first name and spelling unknown).  The Barber Shop retained the name and was sold to Dale Smith in 1957 (date Approximate).  In 1970 the Barber shop was again sold this time to a gentleman named Andy Pittner (date Approximate).  In 1975 the shop was purchased by Mr. Ralph Huffman and the name changed to “The Snip Shop” in an effort to appeal to the styles of the day and go after the “longer hairstyles” of the day.  The mid seventies were a tumultuous time for barber shops in general and the long hair craze moved many a barber into another line of work.  After his death in 1991 Ralph’s Widow Donna Huffman took over the shop and ran it till 1998 when it was purchased by a long time barber at the shop Mr. Carl Bredenberg who changed the name to “Carl’s Snip Shop”  Carl ran the barber shop till 2005 at which time he sold it to me, Mr. Bart Russell.  I again Changed the name back close to the original name by calling it simply; Amherst Barber Shop.

From the time of its origin the purpose of the shop has remained the same; to provide first class barbering services at a reasonable price.  Those services include Haircutting both long and short styles, face shave, neck shaves, shampooing, beard and moustache trimming and even full straight razor head shaves.

Here at Amherst Barber Shop our mission is to:

Serve each and every customer as if they were a member of our family.  To work with all customers until they are satisfied.

If for any reason you are unhappy with the service provided talk to your barber or to me and we will try our best to resolve any problems you may have.  A satisfied customer is our best advertisement, tell your friends about us please.

Amherst Barber Shop, to our knowledge, is the longest continually operating barber shop at the same location within the city limits of Massillon Ohio, making it truly “Tiger Towns Barber Shop”.
